Mount Rushmore

Standing awe inspired looking up at Mount Rushmore marvelling at one man’s passion to fulfill his vision.

It took Gutzom Borglum and 400 workers 14 years to complete the sculpture of 4 presidents heads into the granite face of Mount Rushmore. The heads are 60 feet high and the entire memorial covers 1,278.45 acres (5.17 km2) and is 5,725 feet (1,745 m) above sea level. You can see in the picture to the right, figures climbing on ropes up to the nose of one of the sculptures. All this to leave a reminder to future generations of the greatness of these Presidents and the influence they had left on a nation.

How committed are we to leaving an imprint of the Kingdom of God on the society we live in?  How much do we want to leave a legacy for future generations?

The next time me and Kevin would return to Mount Rushmore after this visit in 1976 was 30 years later with our boys Jonny and Stevie. We had just delivered Christmas gifts from our home church in Champaign/Urbana to children on a native American Indian reservation sharing the love of Jesus with a different people group and culture. Praise God if you are open to Him He will always give you opportunities to express His love to others and to impact lives for the Kingdom of God and the next generation (our kids) get to be a part of it.
