b) HUMILITY
Paul knew about humility and the grace of God by personal experience. After an amazing revelation from the Lord he received what he calls “a thorn in his flesh” we are not told what this thorn was but Paul asked the Lord to remove it.
2 Corinthians 12:8-9 Three different times I begged the Lord to take it away. Each time he said, “My grace is all you need. My power works best in weakness.” So now I am glad to boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ can work through me.
We shouldn’t be afraid to admit that we are weak or that we are having struggles because that is where the grace of God comes in.
Humility attracts the grace of God, pride drives God away.
James 4:4-6 (The Message) You’re cheating on God. If all you want is your own way, flirting with the world every chance you get, you end up enemies of God and his way. And do you suppose God doesn’t care? The proverb has it that “he’s a fiercely jealous lover.” And what he gives in love is far better than anything else you’ll find. Its common knowledge that “God goes against the willful proud; God gives grace to the willing humble.”
Notice this scripture says that God gives grace to the willing humble, some of us are stubborn, don’t wait until you are humbled before you come to the Lord for His empowering but surrender your life to Him willingly.
Psalm 32:9 Do not be like the horse or the mule, which have no understanding but must be controlled by bit and bridle or they will not come to you.
This scripture goes on to say that “he who trust in the Lord mercy shall surround Him”
Hebrews 4:14-16 So then, since we have a great High Priest who has entered heaven, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to what we believe. This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin. So let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive his mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most.
