  • Quiet reflection

    image

I like to take time to rest on my days off, just sitting and thinking is so refreshing. On Saturday morning I sat for about an hour outside Starbucks in the sunshine. I didn’t have a book to read, I didn’t have my Ipad to browse and I don’t own a smart phone so I just sat and reflected on things.

Life can be so hectic it is good to come apart for a while and ponder things in your heart. Clarity and direction often come in these moments of reflection.  It’s so tempting to fill every moment with activity. So many items on our to do lists are clamoring for our attention. We may have to schedule in to our calendars, time for contemplation if that will make it possible for us.

Quiet reflection is a dying art let’s resurrect it while we still have time.

  • Taxes – No Worries

    20130406-233805.jpg

About 4 or 5 weeks ago I woke up early in the morning worrying about our taxes. You know the feeling it’s that time of year again. It’s like a dark cloud hanging over your head you have to find all your bills and receipts and submit them for examination. I was getting anxious about the possibility of having to pay a large tax bill and was allowing my mind to ponder different scenarios.

Suddenly I came to my senses, as if I had woken from a dream and I said to myself out loud “ANN!

How many times have you been through this? Lot’s of times, I answered myself.
    Are you still alive? Yes!
Do you still have a roof over your head? Yes!”
Now it was like God was speaking to me. “Have I ever let you down in the past? No! I answered
“Am I the same yesterday, today and forever” Yes!
“Am I going to fail you now” No!
“Then stop worrying and trust me to take care of it” Ok Lord, I get the message, thank you for your faithfulness always.
The peace of God filled me and the confidence that God was able and willing to take care of us returned.
I got up determined to get everything together that I needed to do my part and left the rest with God.

This time next year I don’t want to entertain any worry I want to approach tax season with faith. Having said that why not approach every season with faith, every trial and every difficulty with faith because He is always faithful and if He is for us who can be against us.

“What about the outcome of this year?” You ask.
Praise God we got a refund.

Don’t worry about anything , instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all He has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
    Philippians 4:6-7
Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about you. 1 Peter 5:6-7

  • Investigation

I am an investigator, not by profession but by nature.

If I hear someone mention something that I haven’t heard of before I have to go home and research it. At one time I would spend days in the library poring over books on the new topic of interest but now the internet is my friend, I love ‘google’. I just watched the Apollo 18 film and had to check out the website they posted at the end of the film. I was so disappointed when it didn’t exist, I have this urge to continue to delve until I find an answer that satisfies my veracious curiosity.

I am the same way with the bible, I can’t just read it I have to search into the verses and find out the definition of the words and understand the heart of God in what is being said. It is like treasure that you have to dig for. As a child I liked the idea of being an archaeologist digging up bones in the desert, finding out about the history and context of the cache.  Studying  the word of God has all of the same excitement, uncovering nuggets of truth about how much He loves us and wants us to partner with Him to bring His Kingdom rule to this earth.

I would like to encourage everyone to see bible study as an adventure not a duty and see how much fun it is to grow in the knowledge of God.
